Reset for Success: Pay Attention to Attendance
Posted Date: 01/08/26 (05:00 PM)
As we welcome students back to our classrooms this week, we want to share one simple task you can do today that will help you stay informed and help your student start the second half of our school year strong.
Today’s Task: Pay Attention to Attendance
Did you know that students who miss just 10% of the school year—about two days each month—are more likely to struggle with reading and math compared to their peers? Regular school attendance helps students feel more socially and academically connected.Parents and guardians who make attendance a priority play a powerful role in student success. As we enter the second half of the school year, please remind your student that finishing strong means showing up consistently. When students miss school, they miss valuable learning opportunities, classroom connections, and shared experiences.
We understand that cold and flu season is still underway. If your student is sick, please keep them home. CLICK HERE for guidance from our Nurse’s Office.
Outside of illness or unavoidable circumstances, we encourage families to reinforce the importance of attending school "on time, every day, all day." You can support your student by:
- Speaking positively about school and highlighting the engaging activities, lessons, and friendships they don't want to miss
- Reaching out to your student’s teacher or school administrators if your child expresses fear or anxiety about attending school
- Scheduling non-urgent medical appointments and family vacations outside of school hours whenever possible
